Pink Pirate Birthday Party

We love when parents approach us with adorable birthday party themes.  We’ve got a couple of super cute ones to share with you this week, but we’ll start with this one for a little girl who was born on Valentine’s Day!

Savannah celebrated her 5th birthday with a pink pirate party and asked all party-goers to wear their best pirate gear.  How fun!  Her mom gave us free reign to design the birthday cake so we used the party invitation (made by Party So Perfect) as inspiration:

Black & Teal Damask Bridal Shower Cake

It’s Monday!  Let’s freshen the new work week with a gorgeous, elegant cake.  Later this month, we’ll be making Andrea’s & Anthony’s wedding cake (It is TOTALLY different from this one. We can’t wait to show you!), but Andrea’s mom & sister wanted to surprise her with a bridal shower cake as well.

So we met in secret (Have we mentioned how much Mel loves sweet secrets??  Gender reveal cakes, surprise cakes, etc!) and designed this beauty:

Vinny Lecavalier’s 1000th NHL Game Cake!

We are thrilled to share this cake with you!  Vinny Lecavalier, captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL team, just played in his 1000th game.  That is quite an achievement!  So to celebrate, the team held an after-game reception in his honor last Friday night.

When Vinny’s wife asked us to make the cake for the celebration, we were elated…and honored…and a little nervous…all at the same time.  For such a special celebration, this cake had to be perfect!

After designing the cake with Caroline, we got right to work.  The flavors were red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling, and white almond cake with raspberry cream filling.  Yum!

Pink & Black Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake

Ok, it’s official (…well, not really).  The most popular theme for a 1st birthday party in 2012 is Mickey or Minnie Mouse!  And while it’s easy to recreate a design over and over, we also love when people bring us a new design to try!

Last weekend, we made TWO Minnie Mouse cakes!  The first one was based on the cake with the edible convertible and Minnie Mouse topper, but they wanted to replace the car with a set of ears and a bow.  Done!

A sweet Minnie Mouse-themed 1st birthday cake iced with buttercream and decorated with fondant stripes, polka dots, and bows. The second was a totally new design to us.  A pink & black cake with the same ears and bow topper.  Super cute!  Pink & black Minnie Mouse birthday cake decorated with fondant.Which one is your favorite???

Police Academy Graduation Cake

‘Tis the season for graduations so we expected to do a few high school and/or college graduation cakes, but this request threw us for a loop!  Callie’s boyfriend Andres was graduating from the Police Academy and she was throwing a surprise party for him!  How fun!

But what should a Police Academy graduation cake look like?  Callie wanted the cake to look like a gun case with lots of sugar accessories – a gun, a magazine, his new police shield, handcuffs, and bullets.

A surprise cake for a Police Academy graduate! Continue reading

Milk Mustache 1st Birthday Party

Having a baby is great.  Aside from all the snuggles, kisses, giggles, and high-fives I get to enjoy each day, there are other great bonuses too.  Like getting to go to 1st birthday parties!  Between now and September, I figure Mikaela will go to about 10 first birthday parties!

Perhaps she’s popular!  Or perhaps her Mommy just makes the cakes…but who cares?!  First birthday parties are great!  And they’re all so different – so if you’re planning one, keep an eye on this blog for some great ideas.

I love the theme of Declan’s party – Milk Mustache!  How cute!?

We made cupcakes with little black mustaches and Declan’s smash cake was a cow!

Butterfly Cookies

“No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher’s dirty looks…School’s out for summer!”

-Schools Out by Alice Cooper

Yes, school’s out!  The kids are on the loose in the neighborhood.  But before they left the classroom, the teachers probably tried to teach them one last thing before their brains turned to much over the vacation.

During the last week of school at Burney Elementary School in Plant City, the children celebrated the opening of a brand new butterfly garden on school grounds!  And to make the celebration just a little bit sweeter, we made butterfly cookies for the students.

Butterfly Cookies made sweet party favors for a school celebration! We can’t wait to hear what kinds of butterflies the students see when they return to school in the Fall!
