2012 Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap

Last year, Julie from The Little Kitchen and Lindsey from Love and Olive Oil launched the first ever Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap! I baked Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookies that are, in my mind, the perfect cookie for Fall – just like a caramel-covered apple.  Yum!

This year, my sister joined me in the effort and we made Florida Snowmen Cookies!

Florida Snowmen Cookies - get it? They're melted!

Get it?  They’re melted! Tee-hee!

Want to make them yourself?  Well, today is your lucky day because here’s the tutorial!

Step 1: Bake round cookies using your favorite roll-out cookie recipe.  We used this one for Sugar Cookies from Cookinglight.com.  Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.

Step 1 - Bake round cookies!

Note: Like the spatula?  It says “be a good cookie.”  So cute!  Oxo sent these to all the cookie swap participants!  Love it!

Step 2: Using white royal icing, pipe a squiggly border on the cookies and quickly fill it with more icing.  Give the cookies a little shake or tap on the table to get it to blend together.  If you need help with this step, here’s a great tutorial by the Cookie Goddess (that’s what I call her) Sugarbell.

Step 2 - Pipe a squiggly border and then fill it with white icing!

Step 3: Before the icing sets or dries, quickly add half of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup (the snowman’s hat) and 2 mini chocolate chips (his eyes).  Allow the white icing to dry completely.

Step 3 - While the icing is still wet, add 1/2 Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and 2 mini chocolate chips.

Step 4: Tint a little of your royal icing orange and pipe carrot noses on the cookies.  Allow them to dry, and you’re done!

Final Step - Pipe on the orange noses once the white icing has dried.

This year, the recipients of my cookies were:

Abby at Munchin’ Mel

Jenna at Little Kitchen, Big Flavors

Jackie at La Casa de Sweets
