Black & Teal Damask Bridal Shower Cake

It’s Monday!  Let’s freshen the new work week with a gorgeous, elegant cake.  Later this month, we’ll be making Andrea’s & Anthony’s wedding cake (It is TOTALLY different from this one. We can’t wait to show you!), but Andrea’s mom & sister wanted to surprise her with a bridal shower cake as well.

So we met in secret (Have we mentioned how much Mel loves sweet secrets??  Gender reveal cakes, surprise cakes, etc!) and designed this beauty:

Retro 1960s Birthday Cake

Today, we’re going to take a trip back in time.  This is a retro cake we made in October so let’s take a walk down memory lane while the birthday girl remembers the fun of her youth!

Shannon asked us to make a mod, retro cake from the 1960s for her 50th birthday party.  She was going all out and even asked the guests to arrive in costume!  The ultimate flashback party!

We designed the cake with Shannon by using components she’d seen on other cakes and patterns taken off her party decor.

Pink & Black Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake

Ok, it’s official (…well, not really).  The most popular theme for a 1st birthday party in 2012 is Mickey or Minnie Mouse!  And while it’s easy to recreate a design over and over, we also love when people bring us a new design to try!

Last weekend, we made TWO Minnie Mouse cakes!  The first one was based on the cake with the edible convertible and Minnie Mouse topper, but they wanted to replace the car with a set of ears and a bow.  Done!

A sweet Minnie Mouse-themed 1st birthday cake iced with buttercream and decorated with fondant stripes, polka dots, and bows. The second was a totally new design to us.  A pink & black cake with the same ears and bow topper.  Super cute!  Pink & black Minnie Mouse birthday cake decorated with fondant.Which one is your favorite???

Mikaela’s 1st Birthday Party!

We’ve been a little quiet on the blog lately because September and October are big months for us!  But right in the middle of September, Mel’s baby girl turned 1 so we have to share a few photos.

We went with a rainbow themed party because color makes Mel happy, and Mikaela isn’t old enough to express any opinions yet. Although, we’re pretty sure she enjoyed herself. *wink*

Here’s the cake table set-up with Mikaela’s personalized birthday banner, cookie favors, goodie bags, and of course the cake!

Day 2 – Florida Snowmen

With Day 2 of my 12 Days of Cookies, I thought I’d include some snowman cookies since it’s been so darn cold outside lately! Last night, we hit lows in the teens…in FLORIDA! Yikes!

So I was thinking…what does a “Florida Snowman” look like? This was what came to mind:

But let’s face it, THIS is what a real Florida Snowman looks like:

*This adorable cookie was created by Meaghan at The Decorated Cookie. She calls him Mr. Melty. Don’t you love that?! She’s awesome, and has a book out!

Let’s Eat Cake Fundraiser Updates!

It’s been over a year since I competed in the Let’s Eat Cake Fundraiser in Gainesville. It benefited the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and it was a really fun night!

My favorite photo of the night is this one, surrounded by the people who came specifically to support me. Hubby was out of town on business so I felt so special to have a great group of people there with me!

And the reason I’m bringing all this up again, is I JUST ran across some blog posts that the creator of the competition, Melissa, wrote after the competition.

Click here to see her post with a few of the night’s entries.

Click here to see her post thanking the people who helped out…but definitely check out Steamy Kitchen’s blog post about the event here. She has great pictures of Debbie’s and my cakes! Ok, I’ll just show you the photos she has of me and my cake:

So she forgot my name in her post…oh well! With such great photos, I can forgive that little detail!

Here is the Tampa Tribune’s article about the event. I’m not mentioned in it, but it’s still a great article.

Ok, now I’m getting giddy again! Here’s Melissa’s blog post about the WINNERS!!!

And here’s Melissa’s funny post about discovering she was featured in Gainesville Today, a local magazine. I had a very similar experience when people started telling me, “I saw you in the magazine!” Huh??? “Yea, there’s a great photo of you!” So I immediately rushed out a grabbed a whole stack of the magazines. I gave a bunch to family and friends, but I still have 3 that I will – one day – display in my very own bakery!

Man, I’m so excited now! Competition really gets me going! But I’m also really excited about the Florida ICED Cake Competition because now I’m the one planning it! It’s gonna be huge, people! I’ve already spoken to WCJB about being there for the event. You can bet I’ll be talking to the Tampa Tribune, Gainesville Sun, Gainesville Today, etc! This is going to be THE place to be on March 27, 2011! Don’t miss it!
