2012 Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap

Last year, Julie from The Little Kitchen and Lindsey from Love and Olive Oil launched the first ever Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap! I baked Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookies that are, in my mind, the perfect cookie for Fall – just like a caramel-covered apple.  Yum!

This year, my sister joined me in the effort and we made Florida Snowmen Cookies!

Beck’s Under the Sea 1st Birthday Party

Have you caught on that we post sneak peeks on Facebook of our favorite cakes each week?  Here’s Beck’s Sneak Peek in case you missed it.

Beck had an “Under the Sea” 1st birthday party so we iced the cake in light blue buttercream and decorated it with fondant sea animals, buttercream kelp, and brown sugar “sand.”

Buttercream-iced cake with buttercream and fondant decorations to compliment the perfect "under the sea" theme of Beck's party. Continue reading

Milk Mustache 1st Birthday Party

Having a baby is great.  Aside from all the snuggles, kisses, giggles, and high-fives I get to enjoy each day, there are other great bonuses too.  Like getting to go to 1st birthday parties!  Between now and September, I figure Mikaela will go to about 10 first birthday parties!

Perhaps she’s popular!  Or perhaps her Mommy just makes the cakes…but who cares?!  First birthday parties are great!  And they’re all so different – so if you’re planning one, keep an eye on this blog for some great ideas.

I love the theme of Declan’s party – Milk Mustache!  How cute!?

We made cupcakes with little black mustaches and Declan’s smash cake was a cow!

Cookie Catch-Up!

We’ve been doing a lot of cookies lately, but we’ve been very bad about posting them on the blog.  So, today, let’s do a little cookie catch-up!

By the way, did you know that a percentage of the proceeds from all cookie orders in 2012 will be donated to the Susan G Komen 3-Day for the Cure???  Yes-siree! Of course, you can always make a donation without placing an order but you might as well get some cookies out of the deal too, right?!

What would cookies for a man turning 39 years old who loves the University of Florida Gators, the beach, and surfing look like?  Like these, of course!

Butterfly Cookies

“No more pencils
No more books
No more teacher’s dirty looks…School’s out for summer!”

-Schools Out by Alice Cooper

Yes, school’s out!  The kids are on the loose in the neighborhood.  But before they left the classroom, the teachers probably tried to teach them one last thing before their brains turned to much over the vacation.

During the last week of school at Burney Elementary School in Plant City, the children celebrated the opening of a brand new butterfly garden on school grounds!  And to make the celebration just a little bit sweeter, we made butterfly cookies for the students.

Butterfly Cookies made sweet party favors for a school celebration! We can’t wait to hear what kinds of butterflies the students see when they return to school in the Fall!

Golf Ball Cake & Cookies

Giant golf ball cake and matching cookie favorsLast weekend, we had the opportunity to create a birthday party for a great woman turning 90 years old!  She loves the game of golf so her family asked us to create a giant golf ball cake and matching cookies.

Did you know that “18 over par” means 90? We didn’t!  But you learn something new every day, don’t you?!  So, in code, this cake is saying “Happy 90th Birthday!”

We’re Having a Baby!

Well the news is out! We’ve called all our friends & family and even announced it on Facebook. Announcing it on Facebook was a little intimidating for me…once you say anything, EVERYONE knows! That’s a little scary!

So, it’s only fair to announce it here too…I’m pregnant! My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 15 months so the fact that there is a baby (currently the size of a blueberry, according to what I’ve read) growing inside me is a bit surreal. And since we’d been trying so long, we had to come up with a creative way to break the news to our immediate families!

I made cookies in the shape of onesies using this cutter & texture mat set from Country Kitchen Sweet Art. On each cookie, I hand-painted a special message for each family member.

These are the cookies for my Dad, Mom, and sister:

And these are the ones we gave to my in-laws:

And, of course, I made a little surprise for the Daddy-t0-be:

The doctor said I’m actually due Sept 22nd, but I was close! How did you break the news to your family and friends? I’d love to hear about it!

BCS National Championship 2011

Tonight will wrap up this year’s college bowl season. I LIVE for college bowl games so I’m sad to see it ending again…but I can’t wait to watch tonight’s game! It’s the BCS National Championship Game – Auburn versus Oregon!

Two of my good friends, Ben & Shelby, moved to Oregon last year and are HUGE University of Oregon fans. Shelby wanted to surprise Ben with some Oregon cookies for the big game…so this is what I sent them:
