A few weeks ago, we had the honor of creating a first birthday cake for Icing Smiles. The calls to action from Icing Smiles are few and far between so we were thrilled and immediately began designing the cake. (In case you missed our last Icing Smiles cake, check it out here.)
Kole, who sufferes from critical aortic stenosis, was turning 1 and his Mom had planned a Dr. Seuss party for him! She let us have full control over the design so we ran with it.
We tried to include as many of the popular Dr. Seuss books as possible, starting with the Green Eggs & Ham topper…
…which sat on the hat from the Cat in the Hat.
On the sides of the cake, we featured Horton from Horton Hears a Who, The Lorax, and a few fish from One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
Dr. Seuss cakes are always fun to do because he was such an amazing artist. The cake really comes to life when we hand-paint the sketch lines so characteristic of his works. In fact, Mel spent over an hour painting these sketch lines. But, it was so worth it, don’t you think???
