Every once in a while, we get requests for cupcake toppers – fun, cute, mini decorations! Yay! Here are some Angry Bird cupcake toppers we made for a cutie’s 2nd birthday party:
You meet a lot of interesting people in the cake decorating world. Some people stumble into cake decorating and stay for years and years, passionate about creating edible, decorated masterpieces. Others find themselves following other paths – like food blogging or food photography or gourmet desserts. One of my friends recently found herself buying and launching a food truck! Wow!
She designed the wrap for the truck and I must say it looks amazing! Love the pink and black zebra print swirly thing along the top and bottom. The design is really eye-catching and stands out at a food truck rally.

Last year, Julie from The Little Kitchen and Lindsey from Love and Olive Oil launched the first ever Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap! I baked Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookies that are, in my mind, the perfect cookie for Fall – just like a caramel-covered apple. Yum!
This year, my sister joined me in the effort and we made Florida Snowmen Cookies!
Get it? They’re melted! Tee-hee!

The third cake we brought to the Taste of the Town events was a tall, elegant wedding cake. This cake had a little bit of everything:
The second “dummy” cake we took to the Taste of the Town events was a butterfly swarm cake. Now, you may be thinking, “This cake looks familiar…” Well, yes! We’ve done this cake 3 different times now! The first was for a real wedding at the Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, FL. The wedding cake was placed right in front of the Lepidoptera (butterfly) exhibit. Continue reading
As a cake decorator, anytime I participate in any community events, I like to create “dummy” cakes to put on display. “Dummy” cakes are fake cakes. The insides are Styrofoam, but the outside is all edible decor. So anything you see as a “dummy” can also be done in real cake.
For the recent Taste of the Town events, I created 3 “dummy” cakes. I’ll share each of them, in turn, with you this week. And I’ll start with my favorite!
To appeal to the kid in us all, I made a lime green & blue topsy turvy cake. Some people call these cakes whimsical and some call them Mad Hatter…but everyone loves them!
